Jesus and the Singer of Egypt

Description

In the shadow of ancient temples along the Nile, Eirene, a devoted temple singer in Roman Egypt, clings to fading hopes. Married to the kind scribe Lysikrates, she yearns for a child amid repeated heartbreak, offering desperate prayers to indifferent gods like Bes and Osiris. But when tragedy strikes—claiming her husband, son, and mother—Eirene spirals into despair and madness, exiled to a temple refuge for the broken.

In the bustling markets of Alexandria, a chance encounter with a mysterious Hebrew child named Jesus pierces her darkness, offering an inexplicable peace that defies her world of idols and rituals. As whispers of a sovereign God challenge her fractured faith, Eirene must confront the emptiness of her beliefs and embrace a light that could redeem her shattered life.

Inspired by the untold years of Jesus’ childhood in Egypt (Matthew 2:13-15), A Light on the Roman Nile weaves a tale of loss, hope, and divine encounter, reminding us that even in exile, God’s grace shines brightest.
